Like many California towns and cities, Campbell faces tension between growth and keeping its neighborhood feel. Our City Council has done a tremendous job of guiding Campbell through very difficult budgetary times. To learn more about Measure O and the important reasons why the city council has taken this step, please visit the Yes on "Measure O" Website.
PROTECTING OUR PAST
One of the things that sets Campbell apart is that our town looks and feels like a community. That small town feel comes in part from the fact that we appreciate our history.
If we do not support the Ainsley House, the Campbell Historical Museum, and other reminders of our past, Campbell will lose its unique character and charm and become just another bay area city.
If Campbell's heritage, schools, library and arts are important to you, please consider making a donation of any amount, volunteer or agree to let the Campaign place a Jason Baker for Campbell City Council lawn sign at your home or business.
PLANNING FOR OUR FUTURE
Campbell cannot ignore the need to grow. Careful planning to minimize the negative impact of growth is key.
Larger new developments should be closely monitored to ensure all practical traffic calming measures are taken.
The City Council should continue recent efforts to guide the Planning Commission so that developers and home owners are made aware as early in a project as possible whether there will be major problems.
Years ago, the Council had the foresight to set aside a "rainy day" fund to be used in the event of severe fiscal trouble. Today, that foresight is the only reason Campbell has been able to maintain its basic services.
Largely due to term limits, all of the Council members who made these sound budgetary decisions will be out of office within two years.
Maintaining Campbell's fiscal responsibility and stability is the key to our future. Campbell should avoid deficit spending.
Campbell is in a serious budget crisis. A sensibile revenue enhancement measure, if approved by the voters, may be the only way to preserve a sound budget and the programs and services Campbell citizens deserve.
If you agree that fiscal responsibility and avoiding deficit spending are important to Campbell's future, please donate what you can, volunteer or offer to let the Campaign place a Jason Baker for Campbell City Council lawn sign at your home or business.
Update: The city has acted and put "Measure O" on the November ballot. "Measure O" is endorsed by the Campbell City Council, the Police Officers Association, the Campbell Chamber of Commerce and many others. Like these groups, I know our city's services are too important not to vote for "Measure O." I support "Measure O" because:
